We have also joined their register of training schools, as well as expanded the learning journey we offer to include training and certification of Community Herbalists within the UK.
Awaken Herbal Wisdom Living Apprenticeship Accredited
Our original herbal learning journey, Awaken Herbal Wisdom, which offers up to three years of development for home herbalists, has earned accreditation with The Complementary Medical Association. After delivering and evolving our herbal apprenticeship over many years, we are pleased Awaken Herbal Wisdom has successfully completed this rigorous process, whilst holding fast to what we value most in supporting our students as they expand their knowledge and skills of herbal medicine - nourishing with knowledge that weaves itself into daily life, turning up the volume on intuition so our students’ inner voices are louder and clearer than the noise in the world around them and being part of a real community.
Whilst now being backed by The Complementary Medical Association, our herbal apprenticeship is still held as a formative experience. This means your journey is, as it has always been, your journey. There are no formal assessments, and the choice is yours to continue for as many of the three years offered as you feel called and work for your life circumstances at the time. The journey will leave you empowered, resilient and confident, capable of working with herbal medicine to a high standard for yourself and your family. Professional Community Herbalist Certification Now Offered and Accredited
Our students join our living herbal apprenticeship for many reasons. As their journeys unfold, some feel the call to support their wider communities with the knowledge and skills they have gained.
Over the years of teaching Awaken Herbal Wisdom, our students have lovingly petitioned us to support and guide them over this threshold. We have also seen the need in the wider herbal education community for training provided at a high standard that bridges the gap for both aspiring practitioners, as well as for herbal support able to be offered safely and responsibly to the wider community - something between a clinical herbalist and a home herbalist; something between asking a friend who has done a herbal course to make up a tea and booking into a clinical setting; something that honours years of dedicated learning, but that doesn’t necessarily require the completion of 500 clinic hours to demonstrate a desired level of competence.
And so we are pleased to announce the offering of our Professional Community Herbalist Certification as the final stage of development following our three-year living herbal apprenticeship for our continuing students.
Having already established a comprehensive understanding of herbal medicine through Awaken Herbal Wisdom, our one-year Community Herbalist certification course focuses on professional judgement, systems, accountability and the reflective practice required to work safely and ethically. It includes a series of formal assignments and assessments, is accredited by The Complementary Medical Association and issues a certificate of competence to our successful graduates. We are incredibly grateful to our brilliant community of students and alumni who have enthusiastically shared in our journey as a herbal medicine school whilst we have shared their journeys of growing into talented, inspired herbalists with them.
We are currently welcoming applications for prospective students to begin learning herbalism with us on the Spring 2027 cohort of our living apprenticeship, Awaken Herbal Wisdom. Our application process closes 15th October 2026, with places offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
