Special Announcement: A New Name for the Next Part of Our Journey

Our Journey So Far
Whether you're new to our community or have been with us from the beginning, we've been on an exciting adventure over the years.
We began as Rhodes Roots & Remedies, offering 1:1 herbal medicine consultations, an array of handmade herbal remedies and a few seasonal workshops. We saw meaningful, lasting shifts in our clients’ health, watched our remedies ripple out across customers’ families and friends, and felt the impact sharing herbal knowledge had in attendees’ lives.
Both our passion and the passion of our students swiftly showed us teaching was where we belonged, and so our focus shifted. Our workshops expanded and our intensive herbalism course was born. The course grew from an opportunity for workshop attendees to delve deeper into the inner workings of herbal medicine to a three-year journey. We quickly outgrew the beautiful Yorkshire walled gardens where we were teaching - we are particularly grateful to Helmsley Walled Garden, Scampston Hall & Garden and Yorkshire Lavender who welcomed us in for our very first sessions - and established our own teaching home in a 24ft yurt on our family land. This change in focus meant we evolved into Rhodes Roots & Remedies School of Herbal Medicine.
Stepping Fully into What We Have Already Become
From starting out teaching wonderful seasonal workshops at walled gardens across Yorkshire to now offering our intensive herbalism course that spans up to three years in our own beautiful yurt and community-built herb garden, reaching back through our human heritage to bring the knowledge and skills of herbalism - and the personal power it brings - into people's lives has always been at the heart of who we are, what we do and why we do it. It is the legacy gifted to us by our ancestors and the legacy we wish to ensure we pass on to the next generations.
And so we knew we needed to be teaching under a new name - one we feel fully embodies the school we have organically become and that will lead us onwards for the next part of our journey.
As of the end of May 2025, we have become the Heritage School of Herbal Medicine.
Our web address - heritageschoolofherbalmedicine.com - is new and the look of our website and communications is having a bit of a refresh with updated photographs coming after our summer gatherings that will show you our student experience as it is now (as well as our wonderful yurt in all its glory), and we are thrilled one our of current students - Ali Ford - will be capturing those images for us.
But who we are, the courses we offer and our values will all stay the same.
We are simply stepping into what we've already become, supporting our incredible students and alumni and looking forward to announcing 2026 dates and opening applications for our future students.
A Huge Thank You
No matter how long you've been with us thus far, we want to express our deepest gratitude for your interest, support and enthusiasm. As a family-run herbal medicine school, it truly means so much to us. We are so looking forward to sharing our next chapter with you as the Heritage School of Herbal Medicine!
At the Heritage School of Herbal Medicine, our practice of herbalism is rooted in the belief that we must remember, reclaim and relearn our knowledge of our bodies, our autonomy and how to work with plant medicine in order to bring control of our own health back into our families and homes for a sustainable future for ourselves and the planet. Through our intensive herbalism course, we facilitate the development of confident, empowered herbalists, attuned to the messages of their bodies and the natural world. Living the deep wisdom of herbal medicine within themselves, their homes and their communities, they uplift themselves and others, creating a stronger society organically. We do hope you'll join us on your journey!
